Materials: 8 sections of black basalt, carved in relief; traces of white and blue pigments in crevices

Dimensions: 400 x 250cm

Accession Number: MXD 293

Script:

The arch is engraved in an accomplished overlapping thulth with Qur’an, Surat al-Baqarah, verses 142–5, which refer to the Masjid al-Haram and the qiblah, and concludes, ‘it was written by Hasan ‘Ali. It was written in the year 1089’.
