‘The march of the caravan from Cairo to Mecca’ is an illustration (page 130 ) from volume II of Troisième voyage du sieur Paul Lucas, fait en M.DCCXIV, & c. par ordre de Louis XIV dans la Turquie, l’Asie, la Sourie, la Palestine, la Haute et la Basse Egypte, & c., by Paul Lucas. It is the earliest printed European depiction of the mahmal procession.
