Tax Quittance for Mir ibn Bek

DOC 27 [AR 30]

Khurasan

dated dhu’l-Hijjah 148 (January – February 766)

ink on light-coloured parchment; bulla of reddish clay

8.2 x 7.6cm

Arabic document.

The document is a tax receipt issued by Sulayman ibn Sa‘id, a financial administrator of the governor al-Qa‘qa‘ ibn Salim, whose jurisdiction extended over the districts of Madr and Rizm.

The document confirms that Sulayman ibn Sa‘id had received 10 dirhams from Mir ibn Bek, the sum the latter owed with regard to the kharaj for the year 147 AH.

The seal impression on the bulla reads, ‘Sulayman (ibn) Sa‘id’.
