Wide-mouthed Jug

Location: Iran or Afghanistan

Materials: aquamarine-coloured glass, blown and tooled

Dimensions: 19 x 11.2cm

Accession Number: GLS 521

Other Notes:

The jug has flattened, slightly concave shoulders, a flaring, wide-mouthed neck and a cylindrical body tapering slightly to the base. Underneath, the base has a pointed kick and retains a pontil mark. A thick trail has been applied to the shoulders, pulled up to the rim and tooled to form a handle with a triangular thumb-rest.
The weathering is markedly similar to that of a glass disc in the Collection, also datable to the 12th century [see GLS 608].
