Materials: black silk, with coloured silk appliqués, relief-embroidered in silver and silver-gilt wire over cotton thread padding

Script:

The short commissioning notice, embroidered immediately above the opening for the door, states that this curtain – here referred to as ‘this noble burdah’ – was made to the order of Sultan Mahmud II in the year 1228 [AH].
