Footed Dish

Location: Mughal India

Materials: gold, with translucent green and red enamels on an opaque white ground

Dimensions: 5.5 x 14.3 x 12.1cm

Accession Number: JLY 1076

Other Notes:

The shape of this dish seems to derive from late 17th-century Netherlandish silver and may have been a contemporary commission from the Dutch East India Company (VOC). The overall decoration of 4-petalled florets is a design, however, much more commonly found on Indian textiles of the period.
