Carriage Cushion Cover (Octagon and Diamond Lattice with People)

interlocked tapestry

58 x 92 cm

Here octagons join vertically and horizontally to form rows; the background space forms large diamonds; and the underlying lattice is less obvious. This example, SW 89 and SW 17 are closely related; here, the lattice is in brown and ivory, and in the others it is in red and ivory. In all of them, we find a blue eight-pointed star within each octagon. On the yellow elongated octagonal window in the centre of each star are placed standing human figures, their hands on their waists as if dancing.
